THE FILM

MY STORY BEHIND THE STORY

I wrote this film especially for Rachel Posler as the titular Doris. She is especially gifted as a comedian and performer and I felt that she needed to be featured in a role that could highlight the her talent more than the sketch comedy videos we had both been involved in previously during college. All of her work brings me so much joy and I’m very proud to have made this with her. I think she’s the only person I know who could pull off pool floaties and goggles in a standard sized tub.

In addition to my other roles on the project, I also took a chance on making the original 2D illustrations we animated for the storybook interludes. Timothy Montoya did an excellent job in post-production taking the still drawings and gently animating them, warping them, lighting them and compositing them to bring them to life.

The final piece of the puzzle that brings the film together for me is the sweeping score by Christian Kolo. His ability and willingness to commit to the subgenres of each interlude is what ties everything together. I think his sensibilities have always tended to a grander scale and I think that shines in the film.
